Micro Petroleum Quartz with Chalcedony
From the Condesa Mine in Santa Eulalia, Chihuahua, Mexico comes this Micro Petroleum Quartz with Chalcedony. “Micro petroleum quartz over chalcedony" describes a mineral formation where tiny quartz crystals containing liquid petroleum inclusions grew on a bed of chalcedony. The petroleum is inside the quartz, not the chalcedony, and the two are distinct but often found together. The term "micro petroleum quartz" refers to the quartz crystals themselves, while the chalcedony is the underlying material, a type of microcrystalline quartz. UV reactive under shortwave light and may phosphoresce.
This mineral measures 5.5” x 2.25” and weighs 164 grams (0.365 lbs.).
