Blue Halite crystals can be found in Turkey, particularly in the Tuzluca District of Igdir Province, in Eastern Turkey. They are described as a rare variety of crystallized sodium chloride, also know as blue rock salt. The distinctive blue coloration in these crystals is primarily attributed to the presence of tiny colloidal-sized cluster of sodium metal within the crystal lattice, often triggered by natural radiation.
Halite commonly known as rock salt, forms when salt-rich waters evaporate. In Turkey, Halite deposits are found in areas like the Tuz Golu basin, which is a major salt production area. Salt production in Turkey has a long history. The Tuzluca Salt mines, which are officially operation since 1923 but are known since medieval times, descend 885 feet underground according to Atlas Obscura.
