The process of Siderite that epimorphs after calcite: these crystals begin as classic scalenohedral calcite. Later, iron-rich hydrothermal fluid circulates through the cavities and deposits a thin layer of Siderite directly on the calcite surface. Because the calcite was not completely dissolved, the Siderite grew by epimorphism, a process where the new mineral preserves the shape of the original crystal. This is why every edge and point still shows the geometry of calcite, but with the texture of Siderite. The matrix may often include Quartz, Galena, Pyrite, and Marcasite.
Disclaimer: This is a natural crystal sold as is, as you can see in its images and video. It is the exact one you will receive. It may contain natural imperfections. Please make sure to read the sizing, and description before purchasing. – Siderite after Calcite from the Ojuela Mine.
